LITTLE NARROWS CEMETERY

LITTLE NARROWS, VICTORIA CO, NS

From Trans-Canada 105, take exit to Little Narrows; proceed south 1 km; the Presbyterian Church is on your right and the cemetery is behind it. R Fraser recorded all stones the 8th and 15th August 1998.

The people of the communities served by this cemetery have shown a long tradition of recording their history on the stones. This cemetery is in excellent condition considering the age of some stones and problems of frost and weather in this area. It is to the great credit of the people of several generations and to one Malcolm Ross in particular, who is very much alive and may be seen painting the parking area posts or cutting the grass, that the history of the community of Little Narrows has been preserved so well.

THE OLD CEMETERY

From the west end of the above cemetery, follow the road along the shore; you will see stones on the south or shore side. A stone breakwater was placed against the bank to prevent erosion to protect this cemetery. Some trees have been cut on the bank to reveal the old grave sites, but ferns were in abundance concealing many stones. Many markers were fieldstone and cannot be read today. Be cautious on the bank as it is steep and some graves have sunk. On top of the bank the cemetery is mowed and recent burials have been made. Recorded by R Fraser rfraser@highlander.cbnet.ns.ca 15 Aug 1998.
