Started in Section 1, the row closest to York Street, left hand side then zig-zagged back and forth to last row of the section. Graves were clearly marked; all are newer stones. Section 3 is the most recent and some of the last rows only have funeral home markers with the names on them.
According to the caretaker the cemetery was started in 1953 to serve the parishes of St. Pius and Immaculate Conception in Sydney Mines. Prior to that people were buried at St. Mary's Cemetery on Shore Road. There is a St Joseph's computerized list available through the churches of graves done in alphabetical order with row and plot number. This would be useful information for anyone looking for someone who did not have a headstone on their grave. Taken by Debbie MacKinnon
