ARMSTRONG, BURKE, BURNS, DONOVAN, FORD, JOST, LORWAY, MACLEAN, MACLEOD, MACNEIL, MELONEY, MORRISON, MUGGAH, NUNN, SMITH posted by Patrick Burke on Sunday, July 8, 2001

I am seeking information about, and contact with living descendants of, Richard Burke, b.c. 1788 at Covehead, Prince Edward Island, moved to Cape Breton in 1814, and about 1815 married Cornelia Muggah (c.1793-1822), dau. of John Muggah (c.1760-1826) and wife Ann Meloney (1776-1830) of Cape Breton. Richard and Cornelia had two children who reached maturity and married. One was John William Burke (1816-1896), born at Sydney, NS, a fish merchant and farmer who lived most of his adult life in the vicinity of Ingonish, NS. He married in 1861 Louisa (Smith) Shubbert (1838-aft 1919), a widow, apparently childless. The second child of Richard and Cornelia was Ann Mary Burke (1817-1892), born at Sydney, NS. She married c.1846 James William Jost, (1808-1888), born at Halifax, son of John C. Jost and Catherine Hartell. He was a merchant and trader, probably in Sydney where he died. Children and descendants of John William Burke (b.1816) married into families surnamed MacLeod, MacNeil, MacLean, Donovan, Ford, Nunn, Armstrong, and no doubt others. Ann Mary’s descendant married into families with surnames, Morrison, Lorway, Burns, and unknown others. Any leads and assistance would be appreciated and would be glad to exchange information.

I am looking for information on my grandfather, John Alexander McIsaac, born March 23, 1880. We do know that he was a carpenter who moved to San Francisco to work on the Bay Bridge. He settled in Jackson, CA, married, and sired my father at the age of 52. He died, I believe, in 1950 or 51. He may have been married before. I know this is a total long shot; any help would be greatly appreciated.

KENNEDY posted by Catherine Girard on Wednesday, July 25, 2001

Hi, I would like to find information on the Kennedy family that lived in Louisbourg. I was brought up in Little Lorraine and have traced my ancestry to William Kennedy, but cannot connect him for sure with the William Kennedy in Louisbourg in 1772. This record has William (wife and 0 children), as well as Dennis (wife and 4 children), and Mrs. Kennedy (widow and 2 children). In 1772 the other Kennedy's are still in Louisbourg, but William Kennedy is not. There is a license of occupation granted in Little Lorraine to a Wm Kennedy during Macarmick's time in office (1787 - 1795), but I have not been able to find out for sure if it's the same guy. What are your thoughts on this? I'd appreciate any help or ideas you might have for further research. Catherine Girard .
