KNIGHT posted by Dennis Knight on Sunday, August 6, 2000

Please EMAIL me (new address) any information on my grandfather, Willie Hilton Knight and his family. Willie was born April 14, 1883 or 1885 in North Sydney, Cape Breton. He died in Berrien Springs, Michigan on November 29, 1967. His father was Alexander Knight who was born somewhere in England and lived on Cape Breton Island. Alexander died on-board ship on his way back from a trip to England. Willie's mother's name was Florence McKennan (McKenna/MacKinnon) who was born in Scotland, spoke Gaelic and died in 1937 on Cape Breton Island. I read the query from Dorothy Knight dated May 19, 1997 and tried to contact her using the given EMAIL address, but that address appears no longer valid. If you can provide me with any info on Willie and a telephone number or current EMAIL address for Dorothy Knight, I would be most appreciative. Dennis Knight 405-330-3772, Edmond , Oklahoma.

CAMERON, GILLIS, MACINNIS posted by Ian A. MIllar on Monday, August 7, 2000

Seeking information on the family of Alexander MacInnis and Catherine Ann Gillis. Catherine's father was Ian Beck Gillis of Judique, she had a sister Mary who married a MacPherson and two brothers Donald and Hugh. Catherine and Alexander MacInnis had a large family, Mary, Catherine, Hugh, John, born Cape Breton and Angus who was born or baptized in Newfoundland. About 1853 Ian Beck Gillis and his wife along with his sons Donald and Hugh and daughters Mary MacPherson and Catherine MacInnis decided to leave Cape Breton and go to the USA. Their boat was wrecked on the coast of Newfoundland and they settled at Highlands. I do not know if Alexander was with them or not. It is believed that Alexander was born on Cape Breton and that his parents came from Scotland. While we have quite a lot of data on the Children of Alexander and Catherine we have very little data on them. If anyone finds any of this story fitting in with Gillis or MacInnis research in progress please get in touch. We would very much like to fill in the blanks regarding Alexander in particular his parents.

Annie was the daughter of her sister Flora(McKay)McLeod. Ann McLean was probably married around late 1860's. She also had a sister married to a Lauchlin McKinnon of Lake Ainslie area.

He is rumoured to have married Frances Young of Frenchvale. Again the rumour was that they were married in St Patrick's Church, Sydney, in 1831. There is also a John Quinn who may have been a son and brother to Daniel Joseph.
