Information wanted on Sutherlands from Gillis Cove, Inverness County. My Grandmother was Robina Ruth Suth erland, b.1892 in Seaview. Her Brothers and Sisters - John Alexander Sutherland b. 1878, Mary Catherine Sutherland, b.1882, Don William Sutherland, b. 1884. Parents were John Alexander Sutherland b. 1845 River Inhabitants, d. 1922, Orangedale and Annie Belle Maclellan. John Alexanders parents were John William Sutherland and Mary Maclean. Annie Belle's parents were Alexander Maclellan and Mary Gillis. I would like to take this Sutherland family back more generations into Scotland. Has anyone any information? Looking for information on a Mr. & Mrs. Neil MCNEIL from North Sydney who adopted a son from the Home of the Guardian Angel in Halifax on August 28, 1915. He was born John Edward Nixon in Yarmouth, N.S. 03-04-1912. This man is my uncle and I would really like to find out what happened to him. My mother was taken from this same orphanage in February of 1915 by Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Oram of Florence. I am looking for the MACINNINS family that resided near to Frenchvale and Leitches Creek on Cape Breton Island. Catherine MACINNIS was born about 1832, probably near to this area, and married in the late 1850's to John MACCORMICK, son of Iain MACCORMICK and Catherine ROSS, who emigrated from South Uist, probaby about 1827. Catherine MACINNIS and husband John MACCORMICK lived in Leitches Creek and had Mary, John, Sarah (Sadie), Catherine (Kate), Dougald, John Edward, Stephen, and Mary Anna. It appears that all of these children went to the United States. Catherine MACINNIS MACCORMICK died in 1906 and is buried in St. Mary's cemetery in Frenchvale. John died in 1900 and is buried next to her.
