HOARE posted by Lynn Fancher on Saturday, August 14, 1999

From the 1921 Newfoundland census, I discovered my grandmother, Kathleen Hall, was married to Harry Hoare. It lists him as being born in Sydney,May 23. 1898. Actually, I need to know when he died or when he and my grandmother divorced. There is a marriage record on file in the Catholic churh in Portugal Cove. The only man my father knew as his father was Bernard Joseph Orr. He never knew of a man Harry Hoare. My father also knows incredibly little about Bernard Joseph Orr except he was a spy during WW1 and some sort of secret policeman during civilian life. I am trying to rule out the possibility they are one and the same person.

GILLIS posted by Susan Pacheco on Thursday, August 26, 1999

Looking for info on my grandparents Donald & Christine (or Christy) Gillis - her maiden was Gillis as well -and info on their ancestors. He was a farmer - i think they raised turkeys, and she had a teaching certificate, but I don't know if she worked. My guess to their birthdates would be about 1880? Info I have is my mother was born in Broad Cove in Feb 1918. Six sisters, 2 brothers. Grandfather was from lg family - 17 siblings (+ -). I've been on these sites for 2 days now and have noticed all the Donald/Christy Gillises! Not to mention the marriages to MacDonalds. Are we all related? I know 2 great uncles names: Duncan (married a woman named Sadie) and Ronald (moved to U.S.- Michigan?) Not clear if they were grandfather or grandmother's side. McClellan is a relative's name I remember, as well is Great Aunt Katy May. I'm very new at this and need a starting point - help! Do any of my pieces fit yours? Thanks everyone.
