Great-great grandfather, Joseph Henry Moore, born "Cape Breton" 10/14/1847 or 8. He emigrated to Iowa and married Harriet Maud Richards in 1874. Both he and Harriet died in 1901, a victim of a flu epidemic. My grandfather was fairly young when Joseph and Harriet died, and my mother's memory is failing. I have very little information about Joseph Henry and am interested in finding out about the Moores. There is a marvelous gift of height which was passed from that branch of the family--

The surname CHERRIN appears in the 1903-04 Sydney City Directory. My information is that it results from a name change from its original Russian transliteration done in Sydney probably sometime between 1899 and 1903. I would like to trace back to find the original Russian transliteration. Where would name change records for that time period be maintained?

I am looking for information on Norman MCDONALD, born 2 Jan 1822 in Scotland, married to Mary, born 19 Dec 1832 in Scotland, emigrated to NS in 1840. He was a 78 year old retired coal miner living in Glace Bay at 1901 Census with sons Angus T. McDonald, born 2 Jan 1865, and James McDonald. born 14 Aug 1876, both born in Nova Scotia, both coal miners. Angus T. is listed as a widower, with three children, Norman J., born 22 Apr 1890, Ronald Campbell, born 5 Dec 1893 and Sarah PM, born 26 Jun 1896, all in Nova Scotia. Ronald lists Angus T and Margaret Cambell, born 1869 in Nova Scotia, as his parents in his army records. 1891 Census for Little Glace Bay shows an Angus McDonald, age 24, married to Margaret, age 22 with a son Norman, age 1 and a daughter, Flora May, age 2. I believe this is the same family, even though Angus' age is off by two years and Flora May does not appear in 1901 Census.
Ronald Campbell is my grandfather, and I have his full line of descendants. I have no other information on descendants of James, Norman J, or Sarah, or any information on Norman's Scottish roots. .
Any information or additional dates, documents or descendants would help.

My grandmother, Jessie Ann Fraser from Pleasant Bay, named her first son Everett, even though she was apparently living in South Boston at the time in 1902.
