ROSS posted by Bill Roach on Thursday, February 19, 1998

My grandfather, William A. ROACH, was born in 10 October 1867 in St. John NB. His mother was Elizabeth (or Lizzie or Eliza) ROSS, born in Nova Scotia, father unknown. I have found records of five Elizabeth Ross' born in Inverness in the right time frame -- between 1837 and 1850. I know that she moved to Maine at some point and lived in the Caribou area. When my grandfather married Alice Mae MC NEAL in Caribou in 1896, she was living in Lisbon ME. She was still alive in the 1910-1920 period, since my father knew her -- but as "Grammy Wilson." She apparently remarried. I am really at a stone wall here. Can anyone help me with the Ross connection in Inverness? Thanks. -- Bill Roach.

GILLIS, MACINNIS, MACPHERSON, MCINNIS, MCKINNON, MURPHY posted by Anne MacLeod on Sunday, February 22, 1998

My roots are in Glengarry Valley. Looking for information on the family of Johnathon McInnis (1863-1946), married to Flora McKinnon (died 1934 at age 71). Their daughther Sarah (Sadie) is my grandmother. Johnathon's parents were Roderick (Rory) McInnis and Mary MacPherson. Roderick had a land grant on Gaspereaux Lake, as did Johnathon, but was born in Scotland. I'm trying to find out if Roderick is related to Donald and Jessey McInnis. In the 1871 census Roderick is age 42 and Donald is 73. Their land grants are next to each other. Roderick's other children were Joseph, Martin, Margaret, Michael, Mary Ann, Lissey, and James. Martin married Catherine Ann Gillis. They had at least five children, Mary Margaret, Roderick John, Elizabeth Josephine, Mary Florence, and Martin Benedict. Michael (Mick) grew up to be a champion fiddle player. I think he married Mary Catherine Murphy. Any information you have about the extended McInnis family would be greatly appreciated.
The census records are difficult to follow sometimes because of the spelling variations for names. Happy to share whatever I find. If you are related, I'm looking for family stories. Thanks and good luck with your own research.
